Elevating Global Competency at the TASA Midwinter Conference: A Collaborative Discussion on Travel-Based Learning

Today, I’m excited to be at the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Midwinter Conference, joining an incredible panel of Superintendents for a discussion on an essential topic: Global Competency and Travel-Based Learning. The room is filled with dynamic leaders eager to exchange ideas and share insights that will not only shape the future of education but empower us all to prepare students for a more interconnected world.
Our session, “Are you interested in professional learning that levels up your global competency skills?” is a perfect opportunity to dive deep into how travel-based learning experiences can open up global perspectives for both educators and students alike. As we enter an increasingly globalized society, the need to foster global competencies has never been more pressing. It’s essential that we cultivate leaders who are not only skilled in their respective areas but who also have a profound understanding of different cultures, economies, and social systems.
This session will provide an interactive space for all of us to reflect on how travel-based learning can enrich our professional and personal growth. We’ll discuss practical strategies to incorporate international perspectives into curricula, the impact of travel on broadening mindsets, and how educators can use these experiences to guide the next generation of globally aware leaders. It’s also a powerful opportunity to network and learn from other leaders who have successfully implemented global education initiatives in their districts.

Global competency isn’t just about traveling to different countries—it’s about equipping students with the skills and mindset to thrive in a rapidly changing world. It’s about understanding cultural differences, learning to think critically from multiple viewpoints, and becoming active global citizens.
Being part of this conversation is not just about advancing our own knowledge but about sharing valuable lessons that can help shape the future of education. With each session at TASA Midwinter 2024, we are fostering leadership and building stronger, more diverse communities of educators dedicated to lifelong learning.
As we gather at 10:15 AM in Room 10-A, I’m excited to hear from my fellow panelists and to engage in conversations that will push us all to think bigger and broader about how we can empower the next generation of leaders—leaders who will undoubtedly shape a brighter, more inclusive global future.
