Addressing the Challenges of Hispanic Middle School Males

As a researcher and advocate, my work focuses on the academic challenges faced by Hispanic middle school males—challenges that have persisted across decades of studies. The data is clear: without positive ethnic-social processes, these students are more likely to be placed in special education, receive higher rates of discipline referrals, drop out at higher rates, and attend college at lower rates than their peers.

Through my research, I seek to understand and dismantle the systemic barriers that contribute to these disparities. By examining the intersection of culture, identity, and educational outcomes, I aim to provide schools and educators with evidence-based strategies that foster academic success and overall well-being for Hispanic students.

This work is not just about numbers—it’s about real students, real futures, and the urgent need to create equitable learning environments where all students can thrive. Through continued research, collaboration, and advocacy, we can transform the educational landscape for the next generation of Hispanic learners.
